“When I am filled with cares, Your comfort brings me joy.”  Psalm 94:19

Let’s be honest. For many of us, we have really reached “crunch time” as it comes to Christmas. Stores are filled with overstressed shoppers trying to find that last minute gift or those last few grocery items they have forgotten. We are anxiously checking the shipping notifications for our orders from Amazon hoping that they will arrive on time. Some of us are worried about that someone we will see or perhaps not see at our family celebrations. For many of us, Christmas has become less of a celebration and more of a time that we just need to survive. We all know this isn’t the way it’s supposed to be, yet we often find ourselves at this same place. We want to celebrate Christmas, but we find ourselves overwhelmed with the busyness that has come to characterize and confuse this season.

I’m not entirely sure how it happens, but I am beginning to understand that we cannot be filled with cares and joy at the same time. I know those cares you have may be incredibly important, but Jesus came to overwhelm those cares, concerns, and worries with His hope, peace, love, and joy. In the midst of the busyness and stress, take the time to find a quiet place for just a moment. Thank God for the hope, peace, love, and joy He has given you. Share your cares and stressors with Him. After all, He already knows. Ask God to calm your heart and mind so that you may celebrate this Christmas with overwhelming joy.

Hand your cares, concerns, and worries over to God in prayer.

How can you help someone else hand his or her cares, concerns, and worries over to God?
