“I greatly rejoice in the Lord, I exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness as a groom wears a turban and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”  Isaiah 61:10

I confess that I completely do not understand the ugly Christmas sweater craze. I understand what they are. I definitely understand why they are ugly. I have no clue why people wear them voluntarily. I understand even less why people have competitions over whose Christmas sweater is the ugliest. Perhaps my lack of understanding is related to my age or perhaps my overall lack of coolness. It just seems absurd to me that people would desire to cloth themselves in something that they know to be hideous in an attempt to be viewed as wearing the most hideous sweater in the group.

Ironically, the Bible teaches us that we were clothed with our acts of disobedience and rebellion toward God, but the ugliness of those acts was nothing to be celebrated. You see, it was those acts that separated us from God. God’s love for us was so great that He sent Jesus to come, live, and die for us. When we turn away from our disobedience and turn to God, we receive forgiveness and God removes our disobedience and clothes us in salvation and Jesus’ righteousness. This great exchange is the ultimate reason we can celebrate every day with incredible joy!

How has your life changed since God replaced your disobedience with salvation?

How can you rejoice in what God has done for you this Christmas?
