“Let Israel celebrate its Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with tambourine and lyre. For Yahweh takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation. let the godly celebrate in triumphal glory; let them shout for joy on their beds.”  Psalm 149:2-5

Several years ago, we were able to take our children on a trip to Disney World with our extended family. While other members of our extended family had long ago told their children about the trip, we had chosen to keep it a secret. I have a video of the moment we told them. We made them sit on the floor and close their eyes. While their eyes were closed, I placed Disney gift cards in front of them. Once they opened their eyes, it took a moment or two before they understood what was happening. Once they understood, there was squealing, screams, and some strange manner of happy dance. Once they knew the truth about their vacation destination, they could not control their joy and excitement.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we know the truth about our destination. No matter how challenging our circumstances may be, we know that our circumstances are not the end of the story. We know that our eternity is secure in our relationship with God. For all the things we may not know about heaven, we know that we will be in God’s presence for all eternity. Knowing these truths should lead us to extravagant joy and excitement. Knowing our destination should lead us to celebrate and rejoice – and maybe even into some strange manner of happy dance!

How are you celebrating every day with joy and excitement?

When was the last time you worshipped with celebration, joy, and excitement?
